found on CL, and wasn't sure, so I thought i'd take it to the experts!
Basically was the E34 Touring sold in the states?
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Edit: So, the wagon never came with the V8 stateside! This is either a grey market import (the dual sunroofs lead me to believe it is) or it is not a stock 5series touring...

Edit for the Edit: NOPE seems like this car might actually be a legal car in the states, depending on what V8 is under the hood. I don't even...
Is it seriously this hard figuring this out?!?!

Edit^3: ...Anyone on oppo have a spare $5,000, and is closeish to seattle? If so, buy this thing, un-slam it, drop in a 6 speed, and enjoy :D

Goddamn that's hot. But yes, they were sold in north america, unfortunately only automatics on our side of the water. But they didn't sell many, and even fewer are in good shape, so go for it. I let mine get away, and still regret it

"in 1993 BMW added a 4.0-liter V8 to the 5 Series lineup. It was available in both sedan and touring models (the latter not in US)." ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_5_Ser… ) It seems that BMW didn't offer an e34 540i Touring in the US, so if that actually is a v8 under the hood, either that car isn't stock or it's euro for sure.

BMW offered the 525it (with 6 cyl M50) and the 530it (with 3.0L V8) in the states.

All of them came here with an automatic. A 4 speed auto in the 525it, a 5-speed in the 530it.

Both are almost exactly the same, or at least equally slow. The 530it will get slightly worse MPG.

Swapping a manual isn't hard, we put one in our old 525it. Really woke it up.

So this one is totally legit. The hot ticket is to swap in a 4.0L V8 and 6-speed from a 540i sport. It will all bolt right in. There are 2 or 3 running around now. And if you really want a manual wagon just wait, they pop up 2-3 times a year. I think our old wagon is still prowling around Portland. It should run forever now that the auto trans is gone. :)

Oh, and my favorite part of the ad "rubs on bumps, and couldn't tighten strut". Gee, I wonder why...

I'd be either a bit cautious or I'd want to negotiate on the price. It's been on and off CL for the better part of a year now....

Even if it has a 4.0 V8 (which you hope it does) you can't tell just by looking at it. You have to check the numbers on the block. Or just drive it, you'll know.

If its here, its legal. Just don't ask the questions you don't want the answers to.

In all seriousness, yes those were sold here. Very few though. And holy mother of god is that thing sexy. Wonder if he wants an E28 project car...

If it wasn't so lowered, I would love everything about it. I love that shade of green.

However they did sell the 530i touring the US over those same years. Which never made any sense to me because you got the poor fuel economy of the 4.0L v-8 without any of the power.

Ahh, I missed that part. That V8 was miserable in the mid 90s, it hardly seems worth it 20 years later hahahah.

Exactly, I think the only positive is that the 4.0L will slide in with no modifications.

Is it just me or did the seller mention the new thermostat housing and CPS a few times too many?
